Systematic Kinesiology and Bach Flower Remedies

Holistic treatments view the mind, body, and spirit, as a whole entity and practitioners believe that the human body has an innate ability to heal itself. Systematic Kinesiology is a form of holistic healthcare, which uses muscle testing to ask the body exactly what it wants and needs to become and remain healthy. During a session, Systematic Kinesiologists work with a range of vitamins, minerals and essences to correct any imbalances uncovered and restore the body to optimum health. The supplements worked with include Bach flower remedies, an alternative and complementary treatment for emotional problems and pain. This article will explore what Bach flower remedies are and how Systematic Kinesiology uses them to help clients live happier healthier lives.

What are Bach flower remedies?

Bach flowers are essences made from watered-down extracts of plants, trees, bushes or flowers. Each essence captures a signature vibration; they are pure energetic imprints of the source from which they have been extracted. They were created by physician and homoeopath Dr Edward Bach in the 1930s. He believed that emotional well-being is the key to good health and that healing negative emotions can help the body to heal itself. Consequently, he designed Bach flowers to be a safe and natural treatment, aiming to restore the balance between the mind and body by casting out any negative emotions. There are 38 Bach remedies that each address a specific negative emotion and Dr Bach categorised the essences into seven groups. Each group is supposed to address a psychological cause of illness:

  1. Face your fears (addressing fear)

  2. Know your own mind (addressing uncertainty)

  3. Live the day (addressing lack of interest)

  4. Reach out to others (addressing loneliness)

  5. Stand your ground (addressing sensitivity)

  6. Find joy and hope (addressing sadness)

  7. Live and let live (addressing caring for others at the expense of oneself)

Just like all Systematic Kinesiologists, Dr Bach believed in ‘treating the cause, not the effect’, so Bach flowers are a holistic treatment, aiming for emotional balance, enabling physical balance. Thus, allowing the body to function at its optimum, before allowing symptoms of disease to manifest.

How do Bach flowers work?

Nature has been used for many years to support health and well-being, you can particularly see this in the likes of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Dr Bach dedicated his adult life to testing thousands of plants to find emotional remedies. He believed that Bach flowers work on a subtle, energetic level to facilitate emotional healing. How? The answer is simple, ‘energy’. According to Dr Bach ‘Bach flowers cure not by attacking the disease, but by flooding our bodies with the beautiful vibrations of our Higher Nature, in the presence of which, disease melts away as snow in the sunshine.’ We are, after all, all energetical beings with energy pathways (Meridians) running through us. When we are in heightened emotional states, each emotion carries an energetic vibration; using Bach flowers will flood the body with vibrations, subduing the negative emotion.

Systematic Kinesiologists (just like Dr Bach) believe that we store emotional stress deep in our subconscious, and may not always be aware of how negatively we feel. This can often manifest in physical symptoms and lead to disease of the body. Bach flowers are a powerful tool to help disperse negative emotions and, in turn, potential physical ailments on an energetic level.

How to take a Bach flower remedy:

For detailed information on how to take Bach flowers, you can visit Bach Remedies or read the label on any of the Bach flower essences you may have. In a nutshell, to use a Bach flower essence, you can either:

  • Add 2 drops to any drink and sip regularly

  • Take two undiluted drops under the tongue

Many people use Bach flowers several times throughout the day. For example, taking two drops under the tongue whenever negative emotions occur. Some people use a combination of Bach flowers by mixing them, to combat various negative emotions.

If you want to choose Bach flowers yourself, you need to find the one(s) which address the specific negative emotions that you may have. Bach flowers can be purchased at any health store but most of the time specialists who are trained to use them, work with them. Specialists include naturopaths, acupuncturists and homoeopaths, as well as Systematic Kinesiologists. A Systematic Kinesiologist will use muscle testing to ask the body which Bach flower essences it wants and needs to feel better. This is a more accurate way of finding the right Bach flower essence for you.

It should be noted that Bach flower essences are sometimes mixed with diluted alcohol (to help preserve them) so always check the label if you want to avoid it.

Do Bach flower remedies work?

Whilst it must be said that there is no tangible, scientific research supporting that Bach flowers work, they have been around since the 1930s and people continue to use them to restore emotional well-being and combat stressors such as anxiety, depression and anger. It cannot be denied that it is always going to be hard to measure if something is working when it is related to emotions and energy because there is no tangible evidence that can be physically measured. It is the same as asking ‘does meditation work’ or ‘does reiki work’. Some people will swear by it whereas others will dismiss it as not working, due to not being able to physically see any difference. As a Systematic Kinesiologist, I believe that Bach flowers can be and are very powerful. I will often use them during sessions in Falmouth, Cornwall and North London, to contribute to relieving clients from any negative emotions they may be experiencing.

How does Systematic Kinesiology use Bach flowers?

As mentioned earlier in this article, Systematic Kinesiology is a holistic approach to healthcare, which aims to restore the body to balance through nutrition testing, lymphatic rubbing, meridian cleansing and holding contact points. It approaches fixes via MCPE (Mind, Chemical, Physical and Energetically), looking at the WHOLE person and aiming to fix every aspect that could manifest into symptoms, or have already done so. You can read more about this in our article ‘Systematic Kinesiology deep dive: what it is & how it works’. If a person is experiencing physical symptoms such as a bad back, sprained ankle, upset stomach, bad headaches etc, the Kinesiologist will not only look at the specific area causing discomfort but the whole person, believing that there could be an imbalance elsewhere, causing the symptoms being experienced. This includes looking at any negative emotions that an individual may be feeling or holding on to. During the session, the Kinesiologist will allow clients to elaborate on their personal feelings in a private one-on-one setting. This encourages people to express difficult thoughts and past traumas that they might not have been comfortable sharing in other settings. This in turn enables the client to get a greater insight into themself. Once a negative emotion is expressed or detected, the Kinesiologist will work with the range of Bach flower essences, using muscle testing to see if the body would benefit from the usage of any. Just like Edward Bach, Systematic Kinesiologists also believe that emotional well-being plays a very important part in good health. Think about it, how can a person be healthy and happy if every day they are experiencing feelings of hatred, anger, sadness or worry? Sometimes, we are not even aware of how negative we are feeling. Consequently, I personally find Bach flowers powerful and use them often.

Can Bach flowers completely cure negative emotions?

Bach flowers can be a powerful tool in helping to diffuse overwhelming, negative feelings. However, if you are looking for them to completely cure negative emotions, this is not the case. Anyone using Bach flowers must also be willing to put the work into experiencing emotional clarity. I find that they are best used in conjunction with other approaches, such as mindfulness techniques and talking therapy. The Bach flowers help to provide relief from negative thoughts and the mindfulness techniques allow the individual to be more conscious of the way they are feeling, providing tools to not engage with negativity. Or talking therapy allows individuals to get items off their chest, also providing relief.

Summary

In summary, Bach flowers address negative emotions that a person may be feeling and aim to provide relief. Systematic Kinesiologists find them helpful because Systematic Kinesiology looks at the WHOLE person when approaching fixes (emotional, chemical, physical and energetical).
