Systematic Kinesiology and the Chakras
If you have previously had a Systematic Kinesiology session, or have carried out any holistic practice involving energy such as Reiki and Yoga, you would have undoubtedly heard of the chakras before and the vital role they play in the flow of energy through the body. For those of you who are unsure, the chakras refer to energy centres within the body. In this article, we are going to have a close look at the 7 main chakras and explain what they are. We will also explore the importance of ensuring the chakras are ‘open’ or ‘unblocked’, and how Systematic Kinesiology can help to do this.
What are the chakras?
The concept of the chakra arose in the early traditions of Hinduism. Early Sanskrit texts speak of them both as meditative visualisations and as physical entities in the body. In Sanskrit, the word “chakra” means “disk” or “wheel” and as mentioned above, it refers to energy centres in the body. These wheels or disks of spinning energy each correspond to certain nerve bundles, major organs and emotions. To function at their best, your chakras need to stay open, or balanced. If they get blocked, you may experience physical or emotional symptoms related to that particular chakra. There are 7 main chakras that this article is going to focus on. However, it is believed that we each have over 100 different chakras in the body.
A deep-dive into the 7 main chakras:
Root chakra:
Sanskrit name: Muladhara
Location: The base of the spine
Colour: Red
Meaning: Physical identity, stability, grounding
In balance / out of balance: The official name of this chakra, Muladhara, actually translates as ‘root’ and ‘support’. So it is not surprising that this chakra’s role is to connect all of your physical, bodily energy with the Earth itself. When it is balanced, you feel grounded and secure. When out of balance it can lead to feelings of insecurity, manifesting in physical symptoms like arthritis and constipation.
Sacral chakra:
Sanskrit name: Svadhisthana
Location: Below the belly button
Colour: Orange
Meaning: Sexuality, pleasure, creativity
In balance / out of balance: When out of balance, physical issues with this chakra can manifest as problems with the associated organs, like urinary tract infections and lower back pain. Emotionally, this chakra is connected to our feelings of self-worth.
Solar plexus chakra:
Sanskrit name: Manipura
Location: Belly button
Colour: Yellow
Meaning: Self-esteem, confidence
In balance / out of balance: As this chakra is responsible for confidence and self-esteem, when it is out of balance it can lead to feeling meek, timid and insecure. Blockages in the third chakra are often experienced through digestive issues like ulcers, heartburn, eating disorders, and indigestion.
Heart chakra:
Sanskrit name: Anahata
Location: Center of the chest
Colour: Green
Meaning: Love, compassion
In balance / out of balance: Blocks in our heart chakra can manifest in our physical health through heart problems, asthma, and weight issues. It represents our ability to love and connect to others. When out of alignment, it can make us feel lonely, insecure, and isolated.
Throat chakra:
Sanskrit name: Vishuddha
Location: Throat
Colour: Blue
Meaning: Communication
In balance / out of balance: Any problems with the voice, throat, or surrounding area, such as the teeth, gums, and mouth, can indicate a blockage. When in alignment, you will speak and listen with confidence, knowing you are being true to yourself. When out of balance, it affects the ability to communicate effectively.
Third eye chakra:
Sanskrit name: Ajna
Location: Between the eyes
Colour: Indigo
Meaning: Intuition, imagination
In balance / out of balance: Blockages to this chakra can manifest as headaches. When open and in alignment, it’s thought that people will follow their intuition and be able to see the big picture.
Crown chakra:
Sanskrit name: Sahasrara
Location: Top of the head
Colour: White or violet
Meaning: Awareness
How do the chakras relate to Systematic Kinesiology?
The below paragraph is taken from Healthine (https://www.healthline.com/health/what-are-chakras#blocked-chakras, if you would like to read more.) Diane Malaspina, a yoga medicine therapeutic specialist, says she prefers to think of chakras as out of balance versus blocked. “There can be a depletion of energy flow or too much energetic activity in a chakra — each will manifest into different outcomes. When a chakra is low in energy, you’ll have difficulty expressing the particular qualities associated with that chakra. When a chakra is overactive, the qualities are a dominant force in the person’s life.” So whether the chakras are in or out of balance can have a huge impact on a person physically and emotionally. As we already know from previous articles written (see a Systematic Kinesiology Deep Dive), Systematic Kinesiology is a practice which focuses on finding the imbalances of the body and restoring them to balance. This includes any potential imbalances with the chakras.
Systematic Kinesiology applies fixes holistically, focusing on MCPE (mental, chemical, physical and energetical). Re-balancing the chakras and ensuring that energy can run through the body properly, falls under the ‘E’ of MCPE. The Systematic Kinesiologist can do a simple test, to assess whether any chakras are out of balance and require restoration. The practitioner will then continue to restore balance by administering the ‘laying of hands’ technique, the same way you may find that a Reiki practitioner would do so. It is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. Thus, just like in Reiki, the practitioner works with the energy fields around the body, involving the transfer of universal energy from the practitioner’s palms to the client.
If reading this article, you found that any of the symptoms from the chakras being out of balance has resonated with you, then please do not hesitate to contact us and book a Systematic Kinesiology session. Energy is a small part of what Systematic Kinesiology can offer, it can find and restore any imbalance that may be affecting the body and causing physical or emotional discomfort.
