Why is Supplementation Important and How Can Systematic Kinesiology Help?
Last week, a friend rang me to discuss supplementation. They were taking cheap MultiVitamins from a supermarket in the hope that they would help to bolster their immune system and decrease tiredness. However, they felt that they had not helped and they were constantly getting ill still, catching one cold after the other. They asked me a barrage of questions regarding why they were not working, should they be taking something else and do they even need to bother supplementing at all? I know many of us find ourselves wondering the same sort of things in regards to vitamins. What should I take? How often should I take it? When should I stop taking it? And so on and so on. So I thought ‘ah I have found the subject for my next post’. This article is going to discuss what vitamins and minerals are, why it is important to supplement, what supplementing can do to help the body and how a Systematic Kinesiology session can help with this topic.
What are vitamins and minerals?
Vitamins and minerals are essential nutrients that your body needs in small amounts to work properly. They play a crucial role in maintaining good health and well-being. They are involved in various bodily functions, from helping to fight infection, wound healing, making our bones strong and regulating hormones. Whilst a balanced diet can and should provide many of these nutrients, supplementation can be essential in cases of deficiencies or specific health needs. However taking too many, when they are not relevant to your body can have implications and cause toxicity. This is where a Systematic Kinesiologist should be able to help; in defining which vitamins and minerals are relevant for you and how much of them you should be taking.
The Systematic Kinesiology Approach
Systematic Kinesiology is an alternative health practice that takes a whole-person approach, focusing on 4 key areas/realms known as MCPE: Mental, Chemical, Physical and Energetical. The ‘Chemical’ realm covers vitamins, medication and supplementation. The Kinesiologist will use muscle testing to identify imbalances and deficiencies within the body by assessing the strength or weakness of specific muscles. Muscle testing helps to assess the body’s overall state of health, identify specific issues and identify nutritional deficiencies.
Systematic Kinesiologists work on the principle that each muscle is associated with specific organs, systems, and nutrients. Weakness in a particular muscle can indicate a problem in the related area and a potential vitamin and mineral deficiency. During the session, the practitioner will muscle test various supplements to find out exactly what the body wants to take, and how much of it it needs.
The Significance of Supplementation
Whilst a well-balanced diet is the ideal way to obtain essential vitamins and minerals, several factors can lead to deficiencies. These include dietary restrictions, medical conditions, poor absorption, and lifestyle choices. In such cases, supplementation becomes crucial for maintaining optimal health. There are many reasons why it would be helpful to attend a Systematic Kinesiology session, rather than simply grabbing a general MultiVit from your local store. Here are just some of the reasons why:
Targeted Nutrient Intake: Systematic Kinesiologists can help individuals identify the specific vitamins and minerals they may be lacking. This targeted approach ensures that individuals take only what they need when they need it, avoiding unnecessary supplementation.
Customized Health Solutions: Not everyone requires the same vitamins and minerals in the same quantities. Systematic Kinesiology allows for personalized recommendations, addressing an individual's unique health concerns and requirements. Systematic KInesiology asks the body exactly what it wants through muscle testing and is able to offer clear-cut recommendations.
Enhanced Well-being: Correcting nutritional imbalances can lead to improved energy levels, better mood, and increased overall well-being. Adequate nutrient intake is essential for staying healthy and functioning at your best.
Prevention of Health Issues: Supplementing with the right vitamins and minerals can help prevent deficiencies that may lead to health problems.
In addition, whilst there is no scientific research to back this up that I can quote, I can say with certainty that the quality of the vitamins and minerals you take as supplements is going to have a large impact on whether they are effective for you or not. I think the best way to prove this is by using an analogy. You require protein after a gym workout, so you decide to eat a burger patty. What do you think is going to be better for you at providing that protein your body so desperately craves to help it repair and replenish the muscle tissues. Option A: you pick up locally grown, organic ground meet from the local store and make your own burger patty to eat. Option B: you swing by the local Maccy D’s and order yourself a big mac and throw away the buns. Which one will be better for you? We can say the same about supplements; using a reputable brand (like Lily & Loaf) who use only pure natural ingredients that are allergen-free, non-GMO, and contain no unnecessary binders or unnatural fillers, is going to be alot better for you, than using a cheap vit off a superstore shelf.
In conclusion, vitamins and minerals are the building blocks of good health, and they play a vital role in various physiological functions. Systematic Kinesiology, with its unique muscle testing techniques, can help individuals identify their specific nutritional needs and deficiencies. Supplementation, guided by these assessments, is an effective way to address these deficiencies and support overall well-being. It's essential to remember that supplements should be used as part of a holistic approach to health, which includes a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Consulting with a Systematic Kinesiologist can provide personalized guidance and ensure that supplementation is both relevant and safe. If you would like to know, please book a session with me.
